Fact: Concerning the subject of dolphin safe tuna, a document from the Federal Register of April 12, 2005, entitled, "Taking of Marine Mammals Incidental to Commercial Fishing Operations; Tuna Purse Seine Vessels in the Eastern Tropical Pacific Ocean (ETP)," involving the National Marine Fisheries Service (NMFS), the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA), and the Department of Commerce, summarizes a "final rule" of its implementation of the Marine Mammal Protection Act (MMPA), Dolphin Protection Consumer Information Act (DPCIA), and International Dolphin Conservation Program Act (IDCPA), "effective May 12, 2005." Fact: As a means of promoting the preservation of the dolphin, EarthTrust has proposed an alternative to the official mark for dolphin safe labeling of tuna by the US Department of Commerce.
